Home Energy Saving Tips Everyone Should Know

September 13, 2019

We know most of us want to do our bit to reduce carbon emissions and save money on energy bills!

You should start with the simple stuff like ensuring you switch off the lights, turn off home appliances and turn your thermostat down by a couple of degrees (thermostat alone could save you around £150 a year!) Although these may seem silly, but things like not overfilling the kettle, spending less time in the shower, switching off standby altogether can save quite a bit!

Next thing you need to do is ensure that the heat doesn’t escape your home due to poor insulation. Draught-proof your windows and doors first and then consider insulating your loft and cavity walls!

A large number of UK households still have old and inefficient boilers in place that are costing a lot of money to power up and emit high levels of CO2! You might be unaware of how inefficient your boiler is, hence it’s important to familiarize yourself with your boiler rating. For example, you could be saving up to £300 a year by replacing an old G rated boiler with a more efficient A rated one!

Depending on the property you may also want to consider installing ground or air source heat pumps, which are a greener source of energy as they use less CO2 than other forms of heating. Ground source heat pumps are very cost efficient and provide both cooling and heating, so during the hot summer days you won’t need to invest into air con or fans.

At Heat London we are offering a range of free or grant funded energy saving upgrades for qualifying households. Please get in touch with us today to see how we can help you improve your home energy efficiency and help you save money!
